Jaipur, July 25: Even as resumption of Samjhauta Express service hangs fire, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, seeking to benefit from current thaw in Indo-Pak ties, today wrote to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee strongly pitching in for revival of rail link between his state and Pakistan. Gehlot said in the letter that in the light of the initiatives being taken by the Government of India for restoration of lasting peace with Pakistan, he believed that special emphasis has to be given to resumption of rail link between Muna Boa in Rajasthan and Kokrapar in Pakistan.

Referring to the problems being faced by Indian citizens of minority community residing in Rajasthan , Gujarat, Delhi, whose relatives live in Sindh province of Pakistan and also people of Pakistan living along the border, Gelhot said re-starting the rail line would help the people of both countries. Reminding Vajpayee of his previous letter, the Chief Minister said he had mentioned the commitment of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to include this as an agenda for the Indo-Pak joint committee which had deliberated on the matter.

He said efforts had been made by Indira Gandhi to obtain consensus in this regard but this could not be achieved due to the "negative" attitude of Pakistan government.

In the light of the recent announcement made regarding resumption of rail and air links between the two countries, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that this would lead to a better understanding between the people of the two countries.
