Bir Devinder Singh elected deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly
Chandigarh, Mar 27: Firebrand Kharar MLA Bir Devinder Singh of Congress was unanimously elected the deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly here today.
Chandigarh, Mar 27: Firebrand Kharar MLA Bir Devinder Singh of Congress was unanimously elected the deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly here today.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh proposed the name of Bir Devinder Singh and it was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Choudhary Jagjit Singh.
Speaker Kewal Krishan declared Bir Devinder Singh elected unopposed as there was no other name proposed for the post.
The seat of deputy speaker fell vacant following the elevation of Prof Darbari Lal as minister of state recently.
While Amarinder Singh described Bir Devinder Singh as a 'dedicated legislator with positive attitude', leader of opposition Parkash Singh Badal called the new deputy speaker as a "hard working parliamentarian."
