New Delhi, May 08: CBI director P C Sharma today directed the team investigating the DDA scam to ensure that "human consideration" and handling of witnesses "politely" be ensured while probing the scam and also requested the DDA for appointing a nodal officer to liaise with the agency.
Sharma, who passed an order to this effect today, directed that a senior official of the CBI could liaise with vice chairman of DDA Anil Baijal and request him to appoint a nodal officer who can be contacted for taking over documents for investigations and summoning of witnesses, a CBI spokesman said here.
The order from the director comes in the wake of reports that some of the CBI officials were going berserk while investigating the case. DDA had appointed a nodal officer in early 1990's when the housing scam broke in which former Union ministers Sheila Kaul and P K Thungon have been alleged to be involved.
He emphasised that the investigation should be conducted thoroughly and professionally while refraining from doing anything that demoralises DDA officials and discouraged them from performing their normal duties. "For the sake of investigation summoning of files and witnesses is necessary, but we should keep in mind that DDA is a public office and is doing a great service to the residents of Delhi," he said in his order.
He also directed the CBI officials that the witnesses who were called for interrogation should be handled politely and with due human consideration leaving no scope for harassment or physical discomfort. Bureau Report
