Bhopal, Aug 04: In an unusual scene in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, five women from the visitor's gallery today waived black flags and shouted anti-government slogans. They were protesting against alleged atrocities on tribals. They were remanded to house custody till its adjournment for the day. The incident took place when Chief Minister Digvijay Singh was about to wind up his replies to questions by members on various issues. The five, belonging to 'Nari Chetna Manch' and 'Samajwadi Jan Parishad', were detained inside the assembly premises till the day's business was over.
The women, who were whisked away by the marshals, also wanted the state government to put an end to its programme of distribution of land belonging to scheduled castes to dalits.
Speaker Srinivas Tiwari also directed that Kankar Munjare of Janata Party and independent member Dr Sunilam, who had issued the visitors' passes to the five women, be prevented from issuing entry passes till the end of the current monsoon session.
BJP legislators expressed sympathies with the women protesters.
