Lucknow, Aug 27: As political logjam persisted in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav today said he would not submit any list of MLAs supporting him to Governor Vishnu Kant Shastri as sought by him for government formation.
Yadav told a news agency that he and other opposition leaders had decided against submitting any list to the Governor as legislative assembly and not Raj Bhavan is the appropriate forum to test majority of any government.
"The governor should first invite us to form government and we will then prove our majority on the floor of the House," he said. The SP chief said barring BSP and BJP, all political parties had extended support to him in government formation

"Besides, all the Indpendents have assured me their support," he said.

A meeting of Opposition leaders was held at Rashtriya Kranti Party Chief Kalyan Singh`s residence last night to finalise strategy regarding formation of an alternative government.

RLD chief Ajit Singh, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari and Kalyan Singh besides Yadav attended the meeting.

Asserting the Samajwadi Party did not believe in the politics of "horse trading", Yadav said "neither have we tried to break the BJP in the past nor are we going to do it now".
"Nobody from Samajwadi Party has tried to poach on BJP legislators," he said.
Kalyan Singh said leaders of Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Rashtriya Kranti Party met here this morning and decided against submitting the list of MLAs supporting Mulayam as they felt this was of no "relevance".
Citing past instances when the single largest party had been invited to form government, Singh said by the same logic Samajwadi Party should be invited to form government this time.
He termed as "unfounded" reports that he was trying to rope in BJP legislators to help Samajwadi Party form government in Uttar Pradesh.
"There has been no attempt on my part to cause a division in the BJP," Kalyan Singh said.
The leaders who met this morning at Kalyan Singh`s residence included Mulayam Singh Yadav and RLD`s Ajit Singh.
These leaders are constantly in touch with the Congress leadership, the sources said.
