Pune, Dec 02: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Sharma, arrested in connection with multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, will be produced before a court here today by special investigating team seeking police custody remand. Sharma, arrested yesterday in Mumbai - a day after he retired, was brought here last night and was taken to Sassoon Hospital where he underwent a medical check-up. After his blood pressure and other medical parametres were checked, Sharma was taken to the sit headquarters at state reserve police force ground, SIT sources said. Sharma is the first Police Commissioner in Maharashtra to be arrested under a stringent law for alleged links with an organised crime syndicate.
He is the seventh policeman to be arrested in the case. Others are Sridhar Vagal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), ACP Gokul Patil, inspectors Dattatraya Dal and Vashist Andale, Dilip Kamat and sub-inspector Prabhakar Kakade. Bureau Report
