New Delhi, July 16: After a groundbreaking year, the Hero Honda Golf Tour 2003-04 will begin afresh with the Rs 18-lakh Kashmir Open at Srinagar from July 23 to 27.
After the Kashmir Open which will be held at the picturesque Royal Springs Golf Resort at Srinagar, the tour will move down south for the southern swing where it will remain for three to five successive weeks.
This would be the third year in a row when Hero Honda will support Indian professional golf, Pawan Munjal, managing director and CEO Hero Honda Motors, said at a press conference here.
As part of their sponsorship, Hero Honda will continue to be the umbrella sponsors of the Indian PGA Tour and will retain naming rights.

Munjal said there had been remarkable achievements in the previous season with the players making a mark both at national and international circuits and as sponsors, the company was "delighted" that the sport was moving at the right pace.



Munjal also announced awards for outstanding golfers in the 2002-03 season. Mukesh Kumar, who set the golf courses ablaze, collecting a staggering ten title victories at a stunning stroke average of under 7.8 per tournament, was named the "Champion Golfer of the Year". Kumar had pocketed a record Rs 21.77 lakhs in the last season.



Ashok Kumar was named the "the most promising youngster" while Digvijay Singh was awarded with the "Putter of the Year" prize.
