Srinagar, June 12: JKLF chairman Yaseen Malik was today arrested along with two of his close lieutenants for alleged 'unlawful activities', triggering clashes between protestors and police here. The separatist leader, his deputy Javid Ahmad Mir and another senior party functionary Noor Mohammad Kalwal were arrested at Hellar in Kokernag area of Anantnag while they were on a signature campaign to ascertain the views of people about citizens' role in any dialogue between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir dispute, official sources said. They were detained for "unlawful activities" and were produced before judicial magistrate, Anantnag, who remanded them to five days judicial custody, the sources said.
The trio had been sent to the Central Jail here, the sources added. The arrests triggered protest demonstrations by angry Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) activists outside the party headquarters in Maisuma locality here this afternoon.
Clashes between police and the protestors disrupted normal activities in the sensitive locality for sometime, the sources said. Bureau Report
