Dallas, Nov 30: The Dallas Cowboys handed a stunning defeat at home at the hands of the Miami Dolphins.
Quarterback Jay Fiedler continued to impress, going the distance as the Miami Dolphins thumped the favoured Dallas Cowboys 40-21 in the second of two Thanksgiving Day NFL games on Thursday (NOVEMBER 27). It was easily the Dolphins' highest scoring output of the season, Miami's previous best being the 26 points it chalked up against lowly San Diego with Brian Griese at quarterback a month ago. Fielder, who improved to an impressive 34-15 as Miami's starting quarterback, relieved Griese late in last Sunday's game against Washington, rallying the Dolphins (8-4) to a 24-23 victory. Picking up from where he left off that game, he was nearly perfect in the opening half in Dallas, going 14-of-17 for 186 yards and two touchdowns. That is 30 more yards than the top-ranked Dallas (8-4) defense typically allows over a full 60 minutes. He found wide receiver Chris Chambers for six and 39-yard touchdowns and also scored himself on a one-yard scamper as Miami went into the locker room 23-14 ahead. The Dolphins continued to pour on the pressure after the break, defensive end Jason Taylor recovering a fumble by Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter and taking it 34 yards for another TD. Fiedler then found Chambers again from 35 yards to turn the game into a rout. It was Chambers's first three-touchdown game; he scored just three times all of last season. Carter did have some success, throwing for 288 yards and two TDs while being picked off three times. He hooked up with veteran fullback Richie Anderson on a 27-yard screen and then with Antonio Bryant from 18 yards. Anderson also scored on a four-yard run, his first rushing TD since 1996. In other NFL action on Thanksgiving day, veteran Jason Hanson booted five field goals as the Detroit Lions upset the Green Bay Packers 22-14.
