A major fire broke out in the domestic terminal building of Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport in suburban Santa Cruz on Friday afternoon, fire brigade sources said.
However, no casualties were reported so far and the air services were not disrupted, police said. The fire, that broke out at 1.30 pm at the engineering section of the office of Jet Airways on the ground floor, later spread to the pay and account office of the airport authorities on the first floor of the building, fire brigade sources said. Eight fire engines and four tankers were pressed into service to douse the blaze and the firefighting operations was still on, sources said.
Short circuit could be the cause of the fire, sources added. Bureau Report
