New Delhi, Nov 21: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Gegong Apang today denied media reports that he had visited Bangkok earlier
this week to meet the NSCN (I-M)leaders and described his trip to
the Thai capital as a personal one.
''The story which appeared in certain sections of the media
regarding Apang's meeting with the Naga leaders in Bangkok is
false and baseless,'' according to a statement issued b the Chief
Minister's office here.
“Apang has nothing to do with the Centre's peace process ... It is a delicate issue being dealt by the Centre,'' the statement added.
The statement said that Apang visited Bangkok for personal work with due approval from the Prime Minister's office. ''He visited some Buddhist temples in the Thai capital. Initially the trip was scheduled in the first week of November but had to be postponed due to Deputy Prime Minister's Visit to Arunachal,'' it added.
Apang was invited by the Rev Pharpisantathathom of Thavorchittahavaro-Wongmalai Foundation to visit the Buddhist temples in the Thai capital.
It was reported in certain sections of the media earlier this week that Apang is visiting Bangkok to meet the NSCN (I-M) leaders to facilitate the Naga peace process.
The statement also denied media reports that the Apang government was facing any threat. ''All the MLAs of the ruling United Democratic Front in Arunachal Pradesh are united and working together towards fulfilling peoples' aspiration and ensuring development of the state,'' it said.
''Due to his popularity and clean image built over the years, people of the state and the MLAs have reposed their faith in Apang once again for leading the state towards all-round development,'' it added.
