New Delhi, June 25: The southwest monsoon is inching towards Delhi and the national capital, along with some neighbouring areas, might receive more pre-monsoon showers in the next two days, weather officials said here today. The monsoon has covered Madhya Pradesh, Uttraranchal, parts of Rajasthan, and east and west Uttar Pradesh, Dr S K Subramanian of the Indian Meteorological Department said.

It is slowly advancing along the Gangetic plains towards Delhi, he said, adding Delhi and its neighbouring regions received pre-monsoon showers earlier due to localised thunderstorm activity. Several areas have reported satisfactory rains in the country so far, he said.

In the coming two days monsoon was likely to cover some more parts of Uttar Pradesh while pre-monsoon rainfall activity was expected to continue in Delhi.

The cyclonic circulation currently lies over west up and neighbourhood, Dr R D Singh of the IMD said. The monsoon onset depends on several factors in addition to proper establishment of the monsoon trough, Singh said. Bureau Report
