New Delhi, Aug 28: The BJP today described as
"totally false and baseless" the allegation by its estranged
ally and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati that BJP
leadership had sought her help to withdraw the cases against
senior BJP leaders named in the Babri-Masjid demolition case
saying this "betrayed" her feeling of desperation.
"The charges made by her against the BJP leaders shows her sense of insecurity and feeling of desperation and there is no truth in it," party spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here.
He said Mayawati was squarely responsible for Samajwadi Party coming to power in the state and it was "due to her political immaturity and arrogance."
Highly placed BJP sources said Mayawati's decision to seek dissolution of the Assembly "came as a surprise" especialy after she had assured BJP legislature party leader Lalji Tandon that there was no such move.
"What did she get by such an action? We cannot understand for after all as Chief Minister she was enjoying absolute power in the state," the sources said.

BJP sources sought to play down the anxiety that a possible alliance between BSP and Congress in the four states going to assembly polls later this year could be to BJP's disadvantage.
Although BSP is contesting on its own in Rajasthan and
Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP, according to the sources,
had hoped to cash in on its alliance with Mayawati's party in
Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh where there is a sizable Dalit
vote bank.
BJP sources said "anybody joining hands with Congress in
the four states would stand to lose. That is our
understanding."
