New Delhi, Oct 18: Bjp said it was "not mandatory" for the party's government in Gujarat to adhere to the Election Commission's reported directive on the issue of transfer of officers as assembly polls have not been announced so far in the state. Party spokesman Sunil Shastri said that the model code of conduct would come into force in the state only when the poll schedule is announced. "The state government will look into it. But it is not mandatory for the government to take action. When the model code of conduct comes into force, then the concerned state has to abide", he said. He was responding to queries on reports that the Election Commission has asked the Gujarat government to transfer all civil and police officers who have been posted at one place for the last four years.
He said the situation in the state was 'totally conducive" for holding of elections.
