Munich, August 22: German football team Bayern Munich is prepared to release its striker Elber but the Brazilian is staying put until an offer is made. Bayern Munich are prepared to let Giovane Elber go to another club, but as yet there have been no definite offers made, Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld told journalists on Thursday (August 21). The player believes that the German champions should sell him now, after signing Dutch striker Roy Makaay, otherwise he will leave at the end of the season for nothing. The player was welcomed by hundreds of fans when he turned up for a training session at the club's grounds in Munich. Reactions to the news of his desire to leave were mixed. While some felt it would be a great loss, others pointed out his recent mediocre form. After the Dutch player's arrival 2 weeks ago, Elber has been relegated to the substitutes bench. When questioned by journalists, team coach Ottmar Hitzfeld took a stoic approach. "If Elber says that he wants to leave, and play for another team in the Champions' League, then we can talk about it. But, as yet, there have been no negotiations," he told reporters.

The statement goes against recent press reports that Elber will soon be leaving for French team AS Monaco. The Brazilian has in the past been a star goalscorer, topping the strikers' list with 21 goals last season.
