Ahmedabad, Aug 11: Expert teams are examining the site to determine the nature of explosives that caused a blast at Ektanagar area here, killing two and injuring over 21 persons yesterday, official sources said today.
"Police are yet to establish the exact nature of the explosives. Experts, including bomb squad and forensic teams, have been examining the site since early this morning and collecting evidence," Inspector K R Jadhav told newspersons.
The blast at Ektanagar area had occurred due to some fire cracker and the huts that had plastic coverings immediately caught fire which spread immediately.
It does appear that some sort of cracker like explosives were being made inside the hutments as the two persons were killed due to the blast, Jadhav said adding, some material has also been recovered from the site.
A few pieces of what appeared to be a `pipe bomb' were also found amongst other explosive in the debris, he said. Officials have recovered some crude cracker bombs and raw materials from the area yesterday.
"The hutments are occupied by ragpickers and some of them will have to be questioned to know if any of them were preparing explosives, but most of them are still in a traumatic condition due to the blast," the official said.
A case under various sections of the explosives act has been registered by Dani Limda police.
Meanwhile, hospital sources told pti that those injured in the incident, including nine children and 11 women, are recovering.
