Chandigarh, Nov 03: Haryana has earmarked Rs 214 crore for promotion of technical education during the tenth five year plan and plans to set up at least one polytechnic in each district. The outlay includes Rs 100 crore for implementation of a world bank assisted project to bring about qualitative improvement in technical education.
A spokesman of technical education department said Rs 40 crore was being spent during the current financial year of which Rs 20 crore was for a world bank assisted programme.
The state government plans to set up at-least one polytechnic in each district for which private initiatives were being encouraged in Fatehabad, Kaithal, Panipat, Panchkula, Rewari, Jind and Kurukshetrah, he said.
Government polytechnics at Manesar, Loharu and Nathu Shri Chopta were being strengthened and new courses in emerging areas of technology having better placement opportunities introduced, he said.
The World Bank-assisted technical education quality improvement programme was being introduced in selected degree engineering colleges and polytechnics aimed at academic excellence, networking of institutions and providing services to the community, the spokesman said.
