After days of breathless speculation, word’s finally out on who stays where at Agra. In a please-all decision which nobody should object to, authorities have decided to utilise the services of all the three five star hotels of Agra—Mughal Sheraton, Jaypee Palace and Amar Vilas—for the Vajpayee-Musharraf summit. Thus, the all-important press conference after the summit will unfold at the Welcomgroup’s Mughal Sheraton, where the media centre will be housed. Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and his adopted family and team will live in Jaypee Palace, the largest five star hotel in Agra and the strongest contender for hosting the summit. While Hotel Amar Vilas, which is owned by the Oberoi group, will host General Pervez Musharraf and his family and entourage. Though the leaders will be staying in two different hotels, a modern communication network is being put in place to keep them in touch. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has already launched an exercise to replace all obsolete apparatus from the Tajnagari Exchange where the three hotels are situated. General Manager BSNL, Agra, Rajaram told The Indian Express that though BSNL has not received any official request from the authorities to establish a separate exchange for the summit, it could be arranged at very short notice.
