Balasore, June 23: For the second consecutive day, ‘Trishul’, India's most sophisticated short-range missile, was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, about 15 km from here today. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Surface-to-Air missile was test fired from a mobile launcher at around 5.15 pm.

A micro light aircraft was flown as the target which the missile was supposed to hit, defence sources said.

The solid fuel-propelled missile has a triple battle field role for the army, air force and navy and has a range of 500 metres to nine km with the capacity of carrying a 15 kg war head.
Today's trial was part of the continuing effort to gauge its accuracy and other parameters, defence sources said.

‘Trishul’, which formed a part of India's Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP), is about three metres in length and 200 cms in diametre and flies at supersonic speed, the sources said.
