Bangalore, July 23: In line with its decision to maintain borrowing within its "load bearing" capacity, Karnataka has decided against going in for more loans from World Bank and other agencies, Chief Minister S M Krishna said today. "The mid-term fiscal plan" already released by the government would be the guiding document for future borrowings, he told reporters here.

Other than the loans in the pipeline and already proposed to the World Bank, the government had decided against approaching the funding agency for fresh loans, he said. Indicating that the existing level of loans was within the carrying capacity and servicing abilities of the government, the chief minister, who also holds finance portfolio, said caution would now be the "watchward".

Commenting on the revenue receipts, Krishna remarked "there is an upward trend in revenue collection this year with revenue from commercial tax, excise and stamps and registration looking up." "I am supremely satisfied with the trend and we want to keep the trend going." He said.

Krishna said he was confident of achieving physical target of the plan size envisaged by the government for the year 2004-05 and containing the fiscal deficit.
