Surat, July 04: The sessions court will today give its verdict on the bail plea of actress Shilpa Shetty`s father Surendra in an alleged extortion case. The district and sessions judge, Kalpnaben Vin, had reserved the order Wednesday on the fresh bail petition filed by Surendra.
When the matter came up yesterday, the judge said the ruling will be given today as the court was preoccupied with judicial and administrative work.
Surendra argued that he had cooperated with police in investigations and pointed out that a co-accused had already been granted bail. Therefore he also should be given liberty.
Surendra is facing the charge of "hiring" gangsters to recover Rs 80 lakhs from a saree manufacturer for dues payable to his daughter Shilpa for appearing in an ad film.

This is the fourth bail plea of Surendra. Earlier, his bail petitions have been rejected twice by a Surat court and once by Gujarat high court on the ground that he was prima facie involved in the alleged crime.

Police has registered a case against Surendra, his wife Sunanda and two gangsters and charged them with indulging in extortion and participating in a conspiracy to recover money through illegal means.
