Bangkok, Oct 19: Calling George W Bush “the
world's real terrorist,'' several hundred protesters gathered
at a university today to demonstrate against a summit of 21
Asia-Pacific leaders, including the American President.
Some 300 demonstrators, almost all of them Thai,
planned to march out of the gates of Chulalongkorn University
to a nearby shopping area where about 50 policemen were
waiting. Security on the campus was light.
The Thai government has warned demonstrators not to disrupt the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, and there have only been a handful of peaceful protests leading up to the two-day summit which begins Monday. Bush arrived in Bangkok last night.
The demonstrators carried signs in Thai and English reading “the world's real terrorist is George Bush'' and “Apec - a group of ghouls sucking the blood of the poor.'' Many held multi-color balloons with drawings of peace doves.
One drawing labeled “my world,'' showed Bush painting the American flag all over the globe.
