Patna, June 11: 'Birthday boy' Laloo Prasad Yadav, who turned 56 today, said that advancing age was not something to be celebrated and that he would celebrate his birthday only the day communal forces were wiped out from the country.
"Fifty-five years have gone by. What is there to celebrate," the RJD president asked when reporters wished him happy returns of the day.
Asked how he planned to celebrate the day, Yadav said he did not have any plans. "People celebrate my birthday," he said.
In his typical lighter vein, he added that there was no record of his year of birth.
"My brother, while filling up the forms for my secondary school examination, calculated my age on the basis of my height", Laloo said, evoking peels of laughter.
To a question about his political agenda, Yadav said his first and foremost task was to rid the country of communal forces.
On the Ayodhya issue, he said it was unfortunate that religious leaders like the Sankaracharya were getting themselves involved in the dispute instead of spending their time on worshipping god and doing social service.
A large number of Bihar ministers, legislators and people from other walks of life, came to wish him on the occasion. A number of functions have been organised on the day, which is being organised by RJD as Communal Harmony Day.
