New Delhi, May 08: Barely two days ahead of polling in Delhi, police here has seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition brought from Uttar Pradesh for possible use during balloting and arrested two persons in this connection. Sleuths of narcotics and crime prevention (N&CP) unit nabbed Rajpal Singh, hailing from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, and Pappu Singh of Dadri in Uttar Pradesh, in Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi yesterday when they were proceeding to deliver the consignment to one Sheru Gujjar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (N&CP) D L Kashyap told today.

The two were nabbed following a tip-off, he said, adding a search of their baggage yielded 10 country-made pistols of .315 bore, 40 cartridges, 36 knives, two daggers and some other sharp-edged weapons. At least 265 grams of heroin worth Rs 26.5 lakh was also recovered from Rajpal, Kashyap said.

The duo allegedly told police during interrogation that the consignment had been ordered by one Sheru Gujjar whom they met at a marriage party recently, the DCP said.

Not ruling out that the weapons could have been ordered for use during polling on May 10, Kashyap said police had launched a hunt to nab the person to whom the consignment had to be delivered. Police have also launched a hunt to nab the suppliers Baali and Manoj Bhati of Bulandshahr.
