Ahmedabad, Sep 02: Security has been beefed up in the communally sensitive Dariapur area of the walled city following a bandh call given by the people of the area today to protest `false arrests' made by police in the past few days.
Several personnel have been deployed at all sensitive points of the locality to prevent any untoward incident during the day-long bandh call while night combing operations have already begun, Deputy Commissioner of Police K D Patadia told news agencies here yesterday night.
"Locals said that all shops would remain closed and even though they said that no demonstration or rally would be held, we are not taking any chances and police will take all required steps," Patadia said.
Residents of the area circulated a pamphlet calling for support for the bandh call in protest of arrest of several youths of the area by police.
Several women from Dariapur were detained by police early last week during a rally taken out in the same connection even as riot victims of the area were deposing before the riot inquiry panel.
