Patna, Nov 19: Union Minister of Northeast Affairs C P Thakur today said he would submit a report to the Centre on violence in Assam and Bihar triggered by assault on Bihari students by Assamese locals during Railway Recruitment Board examination on November nine. "I will submit a detailed report to the Centre on the incidents in the two states and seek corrective measures to stop violence," he told reporters.
Thakur, who was scheduled to leave for Delhi later in the day, said he would talk to Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani for providing CRPF battalions in sensitive areas of Assam to contain the ongoing violence against people from Bihar.
The minister said he would make efforts to take a delegation of political leaders and eminent personalities to the two states in a bid to restore peace and amity.
Thakur said he would also discuss the matter with NDA convenor George Fernandes for organising peace rallies all over the Northeastern region to defuse tension. Expressing concern over incidents of violence, he said "labourers from Bihar and Jharkhand are working in developmental projects in the Northeastern states in a large number and if they continued to be targeted the development work might be hampered".
Thakur said he was in regular touch with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and has asked him to check violence on Hindi-speaking people in the state. "I also spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi and RJD supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav to ensure that no untoward incident is committed against the people of the Northeast," the minister said.
