Jammu, Aug 18: The Army chief, Gen N C Vij has inspected the progress of the project for the erection of the 523 km long fencing on the line of control in the Poonch-Rajouri axis in Jammu and Kashmir. Stating this, a defence spokesman said here tonight that the government was giving top priority to the project.

Vij who is a on a four-day trip to the area visited during the last two days forward areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts, he said.

During the visit, the army chief met troops deployed on the Line of Control and those deployed in counter terrorism operations in remote and inaccessible areas of Surankot, Thanamandi and Budhal.
Gen Vij complimented the troops on their dedication, combat preparedness and effective conduct of relentless counter terrorist operation, the spokesman said.

He appreciated the progress of the fencing project as also the developmental efforts of the army under ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ to improve facilities for civilians in remote.
