Lucknow, June 15: A day after Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati offered to institute a CBI inquiry into poetess Madhumita Shukla murder if her family members make a request for this in writing, the mother of the victim said she was ready do so as the family was fed up with the tardy pace of probe by the state police. "We want the case to be handed over to CBI. We are fed up with the tardy pace of probe by the Crime Branch-CID. I have lost faith in the state police," Shanti Shukla said over telephone from Lakhimpur Kheri some 130 kms from here.

She said that she would mail her request to Mayawati in this regard and would not come to the state capital for security reasons.
At her press conference yesterday, the chief minister had said she was ready to hand over the case to CBI if family members of the poetess gave the request in black and white to Director General of Police.

Madhumita was killed at her residence on May 9 by two attackers. The alleged relationship of former BSP minister Amar Mani Tripathi with the poetess created ripples in political circles forcing the chief minister to hand over the case to CB-CID.
Mayawati gave a month's time to CB-CID to complete the probe. The deadline ends tomorrow.
