New Delhi, Aug 11: Centre's interlocutor on Kashmir N N Vohra today said divergent views had emerged during his visit to Ladakh division which included those of some organisations in Kargil demanding "greater Ladakh".
"During my week-long stay in Ladakh, I found that several
organisations in Leh and Kargil districts of this region had
different stands on issues," Vohra told reporters after an
hour-long meeting with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani here.
Stating that the meeting was only to brief Advani about his recent visit to Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir, Vohra, however, said, "While people in Leh have demanded a union territory status for the entire region, organisations in Kargil demanded for greater Ladakh which included areas like Gilgit and Skardu (areas under illegal occupation of Pakistan)."
"This was not the end of the road as people in Zanskar were demanding a district status for the region and they complained of mistreatment from every side," Vohra, who returned after his six-day visit to the region on Saturday, said.
Vohra said with the completion of his visit to Ladakh, his first phase of holding of talks with political groups, social organisation and religious groups had come to an end.
It is expected that he would soon undertake a second visit to the state which was expected to be more focussed on wooing separatist groups in the state including the Hurriyat Conference.
However, when the question was asked to Vohra, he refused to comment on this and made a hasty retreat. Bureau Report
