Pathanamthitta, Nov 12: Dr Verghese George of Janata Dal(S) today filed nomination as LDF candidate for the December one by-election for Tiruvalla Assembly seat in Kerala. He filed his papers before Tiruvalla RDO in the presence of LDF leaders including Kodiyeri Balakrishnan of CPI-M and Dr Neelalohithadasan Nadar of Janta Dal(S).
The by-poll, which has assumed added significance in the backdrop of the crisis in congress, was necessitated by the death of Mammen Mathai of Kerala Congress (M).

UDF had nominated Mammen Mathai's wife Elizabeth Mammen of Kerala Congress (M) as its candidate. BJP has named Prathapa Chandra Varma as its candidate.
