Washington, Aug 05: United States, on advise of its defence department, will share atomic information with the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Spain. President George W Bush informed Congress that on recommendation of the defence department, US had agreed to share certain types of atomic information with the European countries under the Atomal agreement.
The agreement, which has been in effect for 35 years with older Nato members permits "only the transfer of atomic information, not weapons, nuclear material or equipment."
Participation in the Atomal agreement would give the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Spain "the same standing within the (Nato) alliance with regard to nuclear matters as that of the other Nato members, Bush told the Congress. "This is important for the cohesiveness of the alliance and will enhance its effectiveness," he said. Bureau Report
