Pune, Nov 29: Describing the recent Sino-Indian naval exercise as fruitful, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Madhvendra Singh today hoped that it would result in better ties between Beijing and New Delhi. Addressing the media here after reviewing the Passing Out Parade (PoP) of the 105th course of National Defence Academy (NDA), he said for the first time India and China had conducted the naval exercise together and added that it would result in better ties with that country.
On the political front, "Better confidence building measures were going on between the two countries," he added.
Speaking on the ceasefire between India and Pakistan in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the Naval Chief said it was a good sign and expressed hope that it will bear fruit.
Commenting on the modernisation of the Indian Navy, he said "for the first time India is designing 37,000 ton indigenous aircraft carrier in our shipyard which will be the largest warship designed by us."
Replying to a question, he said negotiations for the acquisition of the 44,000 tons Russian carrier Admiral Gorshkov will be completed this financial year.
Replying to a question he said the Navy was short of long range maritime patrol aircraft. There were 13 of them but now only 11 are remaining, he added.
Earlier, he reviewed the pop in which a total of 218 cadets passed out putting out a spectacular parade after three years of successful training.
