United Nations, July 24: UN secretary general Kofi Annan has expressed concern over the recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and called on both India and Pakistan to resolve the disputes through bilateral dialogues.
''The secretary general is deeply concerned over the increase in violence in Jammu and Kashmir,'' an Annan spokesman said here yesterday.
The UN chief, echoing the longstanding stance of the world body, called upon New Delhi and Islamabad to resolve their disputes through bilateral talks.?
The spokesman said ''The secretary general urges those concerned to exercise restraint following these tragic incidents and encourages the governments of India and Pakistan to continue their recent efforts to resolve their differences peacefully through normalisation of diplomatic relations, confidence-building measures and renewed dialogue,'' he added.
Eight armymen were killed in a Fidayeen attack on an army camp at Tanda, in Jammu on Tuesday. In another attack nearly ten pilgrims who were on their way to Amarnath were killed.
