Afghanistan's ruling Taliban militia has pulled out of all northern provinces except Kunduz after opposition forces captured Faryab on Sunday night, the Afghan Islamic Press reported on Monday. The Pakistan-based private news agency with close links to the Islamic militia said the Taliban had withdrawn overnight from Maymana city in Faryab, bordering Turkmenistan to the northwest. “We have retreated from the city,” an unidentified Taliban spokesman was quoted as saying.
