Govt reverts to earlier strategy for combating polio
New Delhi, June 28: Alarmed over a steep rise in the number of polio cases in the country, government tonight decided to revert to the earlier strategy of six rounds of immunization per year to achieve the goal of total eradication of the disease by 2007 allowing who to declare India polio-free region.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved
implementation of the 2003-04 strategy which is estimated to
cover 76.04 beneficiaries during six rounds as against 54.77
crore in four rounds last year.
An amount of Rs 605 crore has been sanctioned for the
fresh immunization drive, health and family welfare minister
Sushma Swaraj told reporters after the CCEA meeting.
