Chennai, July 27: The BJP today ruled out resignation of Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani on the Ayodhya issue and said the demand of the Congress and the left parties in this regard was "absurd, irrational and politically-motivated".
"There is no question of Advani resigning and the entire
effort of the Opposition is to rake up the Ayodhya issue once
again. The charge sheet was originally filed in 1993 when
Uttar Pradesh was under President's rule and Motilal Vora was
the Governor and P V Narasimha Rao, the Prime Minister," BJP
president Venkaiah Naidu told a press conference here.
"They did not file a conspiracy charge against Advani at that time but now the Congress wants CBI to file a charge sheet," he said while accusing the Congress of trying to "mislead" people.
Naidu said Congress had chosen to withdraw several criminal and corruption cases after 1980 but the NDA government was committed to the "rule of law".
"We have not withdrawn any case.... charging or discharging is the responsibility of a court. Our Opposition parties want to charge and discharge through Parliament, which is something unheard of," Naidu added.
