Dehradun, Aug 12: Uttaranchal Chief Minister N D Tiwari was declared elected this morning from Ramnagar Assembly constituency defeating his nearest BJP rival Ram Singh Bisht by nearly 23,000 votes. Out of 44,030 votes, 32,910 were polled for Mr Tiwari and 9,693 for Mr Bisht, the joint candidate of the BJP, the BSP and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), official sources said after the count.

The remainder went to the four independent candidates, they added.

The counting of votes, which began at 0800 hrs and ended at 1100 hrs, was carried out in eight rounds at a salt factory in Ramnagar.
