Jakarata, Apr 29: The US and British governments today issued renewed warnings to their citizens against visiting Indonesia after new bombings in the country. The British Embassy warned against all non-essential travel, citing the continuing "high risk of terrorism directed against westerners throughout the country."It cited several recent bombings in the country, including near the UN mission last week and at Jakarta's International airport on Sunday. The bomb near the UN caused no casualties, while the airport bomb injured 11 people. Bombs also exploded in north Sumatra's capital of Medan last month but caused no casualties."Despite the efforts of the Indonesian government, the threat from terrorism has not been eliminated. New information since the start of military action in Iraq has heightened our concern," the British advisory said.
The US government issued an advisory "to remind US citizens of ongoing security threats in Indonesia ... US citizens should defer non-essential travel to Indonesia."It said a series of bombings over the past two and a half years had struck religious, political and business targets throughout Indonesia. The advisories were reiterated despite protests from Indonesia, which says it has the security situation under control. More than 30 people are in custody following the Bali bombings last October which killed 202 people. br>Bureau Report
