Norway provides nearly $ 2 mn grant to Nepal
Kathmandu, Dec 02: Norway has agreed to provide a grant of nearly USD two million to Nepal to support the rural electrification and micro-hydro development programmes in the Himalayan kingdom.

in the Himalayan kingdom.
An agreement to this effect was signed here by joint
secretary in Nepalese Ministry of Finance Madhav Prasad
Ghimire and Norwegian Ambassador Ingrid Ofstad.
The USD 1.72 million grant will be utilised for the micro hydro component and rural energy investment component programmes in addition to the support provided by the Denmark government under an agreement signed in March 1999, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement today.
The programme, aimed at improving the living conditions of the rural population by easing access to energy technology, will mainly focus on the establishment of local support structures for mini-grid electrification, project preparation activities for new micro-hydro plants and rehabilitation of existing plants.
