New Delhi, Aug 30: In a surprise find, Delhi Police today detected a huge quantity of explosives from the busy New Delhi railway station. During routine patrolling, alert policemen stumbled upon an unclaimed bag, which contained 150 gelatine sticks weighing 21.2 kg, DCP (crime and railways) Deependra Pathak said. The explosives, which were detected at about 1145 hours, were found in an area between platform number six and seven, he said, adding bomb disposal squads had been summoned to destroy the gelatine sticks.
No arrests have been made so far, Pathank said. The bomb disposal squad has reached the spot to diffuse the explosives, the sources said. Police have also pressed the dog squad into service.
Security has been tightened in and around the station. Meanwhile, police detained for questioning a "suspicious" looking man carrying Rs 77 lakh in cash from the station.
Although police is at present not linking the detention of the man, identified as Ram Roy, with the detection of explosives, he was being interrogated about the source of the money and as to why he was carrying such a large amount.
