Beijing, Nov 29: The first of 600 `Polo` compact cars manufactured by German auto giant Volkswagen`s joint venture in China has rolled off the production line in Shanghai, media reports said today. The cars manufactured at the plant are exclusively meant for export to Australia.
According to a five-year contract, Shanghai Volkswagen will export 600 three-compartment Polo sedans to Australia each year, at a price of 113,800 to 140,000 Yuan (USD 13,750 to 16,910) per unit, the same as in China, general manager of the joint venture, Chen Zhixin said.
So far over 70,000 polo cars have been sold in China.
The export deal offers an opportunity to test the overseas market potential of Volkswagen automobiles made in china, an official with the parent company in Germany said.
