Nawada, July 04: Health services remained crippled in Bihar's Nawada town with doctors and chemists abstaining from work for the second day today to protest against the attack on a doctor in which his compounder was killed by unidentified persons. Acting president of district IMA unit Dr Urmila Bhagat claimed the strike was total.
Patients in Nawada Sadar Hospital and other private nursing homes had a harrowing time with no doctors attending them, with only emergency services being run in the Sadar Hospital, official sources said. Many patients admitted to the Sadar Hospital and other private nursing homes have been discharged in view of the strike, sources said.
The miscreants attacked the residence-cum-hospital of a well-known doctor Akhilesh Kumar Mohan located in Malgodam area on late Wednesday night and shot dead his compounder Brij Nandan Prasad in a bid to terrorise the physician to pay extortion money. Superintendent of Police Bachhu Singh Meena said raids were being conducted to nab the culprits.
The doctors and druggists decided to go on a 48-hour strike at a joint meeting of IMA district unit and the local chapter of Bihar Chemists and Druggists Association (BCDA) here yesterday demanding immediate arrest of the culprits and adequate security to the doctors and chemists. Bureau Report
