New Delhi, Nov 21: Annoyed by the manner in which trials in post-Godhra riot cases were pending, the Supreme Court today stayed the trial proceedings in 10 major cases including Best Bakery, and asked the Gujarat government to show cause why these cases be not transferred outside the state. The Supreme Court also asked the Gujarat government as to why a high-powered committee of retired judges and others be not appointed to scrutinise cases where large scale acquittals have taken place and the state government has not filed any appeal challenging acquittals. The order came when Amicus Curiae Harish Salve pointed out the disappointing manner in which trials were proceeding.
