Bhopal, Nov 11: Refuting corruption charges levelled against him by BJP's Uma Bharti, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today threatened to sue her for defamation if she failed to produce evidence to prove them. “All the allegations levelled by Uma Bharti are baseless and unfounded and if she fails to prove the charges, a defamation case would be filed against her in the court,” Singh told reporters here hours after Bharti's fresh charges against him.
He said if the BJP leader has some proof in her possession she should lodge a complaint with the Lokayukta in the state along with the required affidavit.
" But if she fails to prove the charges, action should be taken against her," Singh said.
The Chief Minister said it is surprising as to why Uma Bharti was silent for such a long period despite the fact that BJP is ruling at the Centre and they can get the matter probed by central agencies including the CBI.
He further said that none of the BJP leaders ever raised in the state assembly, the charges being made against him by Bharti.
The Chief Minister said that his government would recommend a CBI inquiry into the matter if Bharti makes a request for it.
Bharti, who had recently accused Singh of being corrupt, alleged today that he was involved in a land scam in which prime government plots were allegedly sold at throwaway prices.
