New Delhi, May 05: The first phase of private FM radio in the country is complete with listeners in all four metros now able to tune in to it. Two private FM channels were launched in Chennai today, a day after the introduction of four in Kolkata. While Mumbai was the first to be treated to private FM radio, three companies went on air in Delhi on April 29.
Barring Mumbai, all the other FM players are using the All India Radio infrastructure. Rs 55 crore have been deposited by the companies running the FM channels, Information and Broadcasting Ministry sources said.
They said with private FM being launched in Chennai, the first phase is now complete. Private FM has also been launched in some other cities, including Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Indore and Pune. Bureau Report
