Mumbai, July 14: Heavy rains lashed the Maharashtra capital since early morning today, inundating low-lying areas and partially disrupting rail and road traffic, police sources said. Vehicular traffic on roads was moving at a snail's pace due to water-logging in areas like Matunga, Sion, Milind subway in Satna Cruz and S V Road.

Suburban trains were also running 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule, railway sources said. A local train was terminated at Goregoan station after smoke emanated from a compartment, they said.
Railway authorities carried out a thorough check-up and ruled out the possibility that any explosive substance was kept in the bogey.
Weather Bureau recorded 42.2 mm in Coloba and 0.07mm from suburbans region from 0830 to 1130 hrs. It has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
