Aug 18: Sam Hornish raced to a superb victory in the Belterra Casino Indy 300 at the Kentucky Speedway on Sunday. It was the two-time Indy Racing League champion's first victory of the season.
The 24-year-old from Ohio won in an average speed of 197.897 miles an hour - an IRL record for any race in series history.
It was the ninth victory of Hornish's career, giving the Dallara-Chevrolet driver sole possession of the record for career victories in the series.
New Zealander Scott Dixon's G Force-Toyota was second, 1.172 seconds behind Hornish.
Bryan Herta was third in a Dallara-Honda. Al Unser Jr was fourth in a Dallara-Toyota and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves rounded out the top five in a Dallara-Toyota.

Brazil's Tony Kanaan, who finished sixth in Kentucky, leads the series standings with 385 points.

Compatriot Castroneves, who was fifth, has 377 points, Dixon 373, and Brazil's Gil de Ferran 372.

With four races remaining, Hornish is mathematically in the hunt for a hat-trick of titles with 308 points in fifth place.
