The Taliban closed its last remaining embassy on Thursday, with diplomats abandoning their Islamabad offices.
"We have stopped issuing visas and ended all our operations," said Mufti Yousuf, an official with Afghanistan`s embassy in Islamabad, the last remaining Taliban embassy in the world.
The deputy ambassador, Sohail Shaheen, and other staff came to their offices early in the morning, but they left after a few minutes, he said.
A senior Pakistani official said the foreign ministry would announce the closing of the embassy later Thursday. He gave no details.
Earlier this week, Pakistan ordered the closing of the Taliban consulates in the northern border city of Peshawar and the southwestern city of Quetta, saying they were unnecessary after the collapse of Taliban rule in most of Afghanistan.
Pakistan also shut down the Taliban consulate in the port city of Karachi early this month because of its alleged involvement in anti-US and anti-government demonstrations there. Bureau Report
