Srinagar, June 21: National Conference and BSP MLAs today staged a symbolic walk out from the Jammu and Kashmir legislative assembly during a discussion on civilian and custodial killings in the state. Main opposition NC members walked out when Speaker Tara Chand refused to entertain further supplementaries on civilian and custodial deaths as Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed wanted to make a statement on the issue.
Mir Saifullah of NC wanted to know why the government had not provided any details of the people killed by security forces or those killed during the custody, in reply to a question by Haji Abdul Rashid.
All the NC members rose to their feet and even entered into verbal exchanges with the ruling PDP members.
As the din continued for almost 10 minutes, the Speaker tried to restore order asking the agitating members to allow the Chief Minister to make a statement on the issue.
The Speaker declared the question hour over when the NC members refused to give in, leading to the walk out.
The lone BSP MLA in the assembly, Manjit Singh, also walked out of the house with NC members as he was protesting that his question about border migrants, which was next on the list, be taken up for discussion.
However, all the members rejoined the proceedings of the house as the speaker called for deferred questions to be discussed.
