Guwahati, Dec 04: To showcase the rich and ethnic handicraft and handloom products of Assam and other north eastern states the Assam government will set up 'Silpagram' the 'industrial village' at a cost of Rs 3.98 crores at Panjabari near Sankardev Kala Khetra in the city. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi told newspersons here that 'Silpagram', to be built on 20 acres, would be much like 'Dilli Haat' in south Delhi. It would have a food market where visitors can sample various north eastern delicacies.
Gogoi said the Centre had already sanctioned fund for the project and the state had allotted the land. He said 'Silpagram' was being set up to sell and exhibit handloom and handicraft goods produced by various tribes of NE. It would also include pavillions of Sikkim and West Bengal.
Gogoi informed that the government had already set up the project construction committee and urged them to start preliminary work soon.
